How much money do I need for a Canada study permit from Sri Lanka?+
IRCC's requirement is built around your first year's tuition plus a set living-cost amount (usually met through a GIC), and that living-cost figure is reviewed periodically. We confirm the current amount with you directly during your document review rather than quoting a figure here that could go out of date.
What is a GIC and do I need one?+
A Guaranteed Investment Certificate is a Canadian bank product that locks in your living-cost funds and releases them to you gradually after arrival. It's the most common way Sri Lankan applicants meet Canada's financial requirement, though it isn't the only accepted method.
Can my parents sponsor my Canadian study permit?+
Yes. Parents are the most common financial sponsors for a Canada study permit, with income and bank statements supporting the application alongside your GIC or tuition payment.
Does Canada accept any English test, or does it have to be IELTS?+
IRCC accepts several English tests, but if your existing qualification isn't on IRCC's accepted list (for example some Duolingo or PTE results), you may need to sit IELTS or TOEFL specifically for the study permit file.
