Student life & lifestyle

A lifestyle built around the outdoors.

Australian student cities are coastal, warm for most of the year, and genuinely multicultural, you'll find share houses full of flatmates from four different countries, weekend markets stacked with food from all of them, and a culture that treats a Saturday barbecue as a small national duty.

Beach culture

Bondi, St Kilda, the Sunshine Coast, the ocean is a bus ride from most campuses.

Multicultural cities

Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide each run on a mix of cuisines and languages.

Share-house living

Most students split rent with 2–4 flatmates within a few train stops of uni.

Outdoor everything

Barbecues, bushwalks and backyard cricket fill the gaps between semesters.

University life

Lecture halls in the morning, tutorials that expect you to talk.

Assessment is spread across the semester, essays, group projects and a final exam, rather than one make-or-break paper. It rewards students who show up consistently over students who cram.

Tutorial culture

Big lectures pair with small weekly tutorials where you're expected to talk, not just listen.

Two intakes

Most degrees start in February and July, so a missed round rarely costs you a full year.

O-Week

Orientation Week runs on free food, club sign-up tables and a genuine effort to make you feel found.

Clubs & societies

From surf lifesaving to south-Asian cultural societies, a club exists for almost anything.

Uni ↔ work balance

Study visas come with part-time work rights.

Most student visa holders can work part-time during term and more freely during scheduled breaks, which is how a huge share of Australia's café and retail shifts get filled by international students. Rosters here are built around exam timetables, not the other way around.

Note: exact work-hour limits are set by the visa subclass and change from time to time, we confirm the current figure with you as part of your document review, not from an old blog post.

Frequently asked questions

Questions Sri Lankan families actually ask.

How much money do I need to study in Australia from Sri Lanka?+

Australia's Department of Home Affairs sets a minimum living-cost figure for the student visa (subclass 500) that's reviewed periodically, on top of your first year's tuition. Because that figure changes, we confirm the current amount with you directly as part of your document review rather than quoting a number here that could go out of date.

Can my parents sponsor my Australian student visa?+

Yes, parents are the most common sponsors. Australia also accepts grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles as sponsors, provided the family relationship is proven with certified birth and marriage certificates.

What is the Genuine Student (GTE/GS) requirement?+

It's a written statement explaining why you're studying this course, why Australia, and your plans afterward. Case officers assess it alongside your financial evidence, so it needs to reflect your own circumstances rather than a generic template.

How many months of bank statements does Australia ask for?+

Most Australian student visa files include recent personal savings or current account statements alongside a balance confirmation letter issued close to submission. Exact holding periods can vary by case, which is why we review your specific bank documents rather than applying a blanket rule.

For current visa rules, always check the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
